Pianist Marek Kozák was recently awarded the prestigious Jiří Bělohlávek Prize for 2025, a recognition bestowed upon young Czech artists who excel in upholding the tradition of Czech music both locally and internationally. The prize, valued at CZK 50,000, is presented annually by the Czech Philharmonic to celebrate extraordinary achievements in the field.
Established in 2019, the Jiří Bělohlávek Prize aims to honor individuals under the age of thirty who have demonstrated exceptional success in their musical careers. Marek Kozák, the 2025 recipient, has garnered acclaim through his performances at renowned international competitions such as the Géza Anda Competition, the Busoni Competition, and the Prague Spring.
Renowned for his collaborations with leading orchestras, Kozák has also established himself as a prominent figure in chamber music, frequently partnering with esteemed Czech musicians. Notably, his album “Forgotten Czech Piano Concertos” showcased works by lesser-known composers, reflecting his commitment to promoting diverse repertoire.
Throughout the 2024/25 season, Kozák showcased his artistry with solo performances alongside esteemed ensembles like the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc and the Prague Symphony Orchestra. The cash prize, generously donated by the Jiří Bělohlávek Fund, was presented to Kozák by Anna Fejérová, wife of the late Jiří Bělohlávek, symbolizing a poignant moment in his musical journey.
