An acclaimed figure in the Iranian music scene, Mahin Zarinpanjeh, a talented pianist and composer, bid farewell to the world at the age of 87 in Salman Shahr, Mazandaran Province. Born into a musical family, she inherited a passion for music from her father, Nasrollah Zarinpanjeh, a respected tar and setar player, and her mother, Safieh Yeganeh, who was skilled in playing the tar and tonbak.
Zarinpanjeh’s musical journey began at the National Conservatory of Music, where she honed her craft under the guidance of renowned masters such as Rouhollah Khaleghi, Abolhasan Saba, Hossein Tehrani, and Javad Maroufi. She delved into both Iranian and European classical music, studying piano with Emanuel Melik-Aslanian while continuing her Persian music training with Morteza Mahjoubi.
Following her formal education, Zarinpanjeh joined the Ministry of Culture and Arts, eventually becoming the conductor of the Women’s Orchestra and showcasing her piano prowess in various orchestras. Her musical pursuits took her abroad in the 1980s, first to England and then to France and the United States, where she also imparted her knowledge by teaching piano.
Despite her international ventures, Zarinpanjeh felt the pull of her homeland, leading her back to Iran in recent years. Settling in the northern region of the country, she resumed her role as a music educator and composer, enriching the local artistic community with her expertise and creativity.
Throughout her illustrious career, Zarinpanjeh composed over 60 musical pieces, some of which have been performed by prestigious orchestras worldwide, cementing her legacy as a prolific and influential musician. Her contributions to both Iranian and Western music spheres have left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape, inspiring generations of aspiring artists to pursue their musical dreams.
As the music world mourns the loss of Mahin Zarinpanjeh, her enduring legacy serves as a testament to the power of music to transcend borders and connect hearts, reminding us of the profound impact that a dedicated and talented artist can have on society.
