Roland has given a fresh update to its ultra-portable digital piano, the Roland GO:PIANO 88. Initially launched in 2019, this compact and lightweight instrument was designed to cater to beginners and those seeking a portable piano solution. The recent release of the revamped GO:PIANO 88 brings enhancements to this popular model.
The GO series by Roland is known for its user-friendly and easily transportable musical instruments, primarily aimed at novices. The GO:PIANO first made its debut in 2017 in a 61-key format, with the 88-key version introduced two years later. The latest iteration of the Roland GO:PIANO 88 maintains the core concept of its predecessor. It retains its compact design, featuring 88 full-size velocity-sensitive keys now coated with an ivory feel surface. Notably, the GO:PIANO does not incorporate a hammer-action keybed; instead, it offers semi-weighted keys. Weighing in at just under 6 kg (13 lbs), it remains remarkably lightweight for an 88-key instrument.
The upgraded model boasts an expanded sound selection compared to its predecessor. With a total of 40 onboard sounds, including various piano, electric piano, organ, and other instrument tones, users have a diverse range to choose from. By connecting the piano to the Roland Piano App on iOS and Android devices, musicians can access the Piano Designer feature to customize settings like lid opening, damper resonance, and tuning. Additionally, the app unlocks an additional 256 GM2 sounds. The GO:PIANO 88 supports split and layer configurations for combining two sounds and includes a Duo mode suitable for educational purposes.
In terms of functionality, the Roland GO:PIANO 88 offers a built-in MIDI recorder and a metronome. On the rear panel, there are ports for headphones, a sustain pedal, and a USB-C connection for linking the piano to computers or mobile devices. The USB port facilitates both MIDI data transfer and audio support, enabling users to play along with their favorite tracks. Moreover, the instrument features Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity for wireless pairing with the Roland Piano App and other music applications on smartphones or tablets.
